All went well with a mild winter here in central Virginia and it leafed out in March with our mild temperatures. The Japanese or Oriental Persimmon is a native Asian plant that has been in cultivation for many centuries. However, I need to protect the Asian persimmons like a fig tree every winter. One fruit developed this year and I surrounded it with a plastic bag to prevent the foxes from stealing it. The other has fruited for a few years now.
